Terms & Conditions

STORIES 4 GOOD LTD – TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Effective Date: 28th April 2025

Website: www.stories4good.com

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) constitute a legally binding agreement between you (“you”, “your”, or “the contributor”) and Stories 4 Good Ltd (“Stories 4 Good”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), a UK-based publishing initiative that curates, edits, and publishes collections of short stories submitted by the public. A proportion of the revenues generated from the sale of published works is directed towards charitable organisations and socially beneficial causes, in furtherance of our not-for-profit objectives.

These Terms govern all submissions of literary content made to us, whether submitted directly via email or through any designated platform, and set out the legal framework governing the assignment of copyright, editorial discretion, and the use of submitted materials.

By submitting a story or any other content to us, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be legally bound by these Terms in full. These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales and comply with relevant statutory requirements, including the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and applicable principles under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, where personal data is involved.

If you do not agree to be bound by these Terms, you must not submit content to Stories 4 Good Ltd.

1. ELIGIBILITY TO SUBMIT

1.1 You must be at least 18 years of age to submit content to Stories 4 Good Ltd. Individuals under the age of 18 may only submit content with the express, verifiable consent of a parent or legal guardian, in compliance with the Minors’ Contracts Act 1987 and common law principles governing contractual capacity.

1.2 By submitting a story or any other literary work to Stories 4 Good Ltd, you represent and warrant that:

(a) You are the sole author and original creator of the submitted work and hold full and unencumbered legal title to the copyright therein;

(b) The submitted work does not contain any material that is defamatory, obscene, discriminatory, infringing, or otherwise unlawful under applicable laws, including the Defamation Act 2013, the Obscene Publications Act 1959, and the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988;

(c) You have the legal capacity and authority to enter into binding agreements and to assign the entire copyright and related intellectual property rights in the work to us, free of third-party claims, restrictions, or encumbrances.

2. EDITORIAL REVIEW AND SELECTION

2.1 All submissions are received on a non-confidential basis and are subject to internal editorial review. The review and selection of submitted content for publication or inclusion in a compilation shall be exercised solely at the discretion of Stories 4 Good Ltd. No guarantee or undertaking is made that any submission will be selected or published.

2.2 If your submission is accepted for publication, you acknowledge and agree that Stories 4 Good Ltd may edit the content as necessary to meet editorial, stylistic, or formatting standards. Edits may include changes to grammar, clarity, tone, syntax, structure, or length, provided that such changes do not materially alter the core message, theme, or literary merit of the original submission.

2.3 We reserve the right to amend titles, headings, layouts, and accompanying editorial content for consistency with our publishing guidelines and brand presentation. Such editorial decisions are final and not subject to appeal or negotiation.

3. COPYRIGHT ASSIGNMENT AND LICENCING

3.1 By submitting a story or other literary content to Stories 4 Good Ltd, you hereby irrevocably assign to us the entire right, title, and interest in and to the copyright and all related intellectual property rights in the submitted work. This assignment includes all present and future rights of reproduction, distribution, public communication, adaptation, modification, and exploitation, in all languages, formats, and media now known or hereafter devised, worldwide and for the full duration of copyright protection, as permitted by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

3.2 The purpose of this assignment is to enable Stories 4 Good Ltd to:

(a) Publish, edit, distribute, promote, and commercially exploit the submitted work individually or as part of a literary compilation;

(b) Generate, manage, and apply revenue from sales, licencing, and other distribution channels;

(c) Allocate and contribute a proportion of proceeds to verified charitable organisations or causes, consistent with our founding philanthropic objectives.

3.3 To the fullest extent permitted by Chapter IV of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, you waive all moral rights in the submitted work, including but not limited to the right to be identified as author and the right to object to derogatory treatment, whether under Section 77, 80, or otherwise.

3.4 While Stories 4 Good Ltd is under no legal obligation to do so, we may, at our discretion and subject to editorial and production constraints, credit you as the author of the work in any published format, including print or digital editions.

4. CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS

4.1 A portion of the net revenue derived from the sale or licensing of books, anthologies, or other publications incorporating submitted works will be allocated by Stories 4 Good Ltd to support charitable organisations or socially beneficial causes, selected either by us or—where feasible—in consultation with the submitting authors.

4.2 Stories 4 Good Ltd is not a registered charity under the laws of England and Wales, but operates in accordance with transparent philanthropic principles. The identification, vetting, and selection of charitable recipients, and the allocation of proceeds, are undertaken solely at our discretion and are not subject to contributor direction or review.

4.3 From time to time, Stories 4 Good Ltd may publish reports, summaries, or updates on charitable donations and impact metrics for public transparency and accountability purposes. Contributors acknowledge that such disclosures may reference aggregated or anonymised data related to publication performance or charitable allocations.

5. DATA PROTECTION AND PRIVACY

5.1 Stories 4 Good Ltd processes personal data submitted by contributors in accordance with its Privacy Policy and applicable data protection legislation, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. We are committed to ensuring that all personal data is collected, stored, and processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently.

5.2 By submitting your work, you expressly consent to the collection, storage, and processing of your personal data for the purposes of:

  1. Editorial review and communication;
  2. Publication, marketing, and distribution of your work;
  3. Attribution of authorship (where agreed or appropriate);
  4. Administration of charitable allocations and reporting.

5.3 Your personal data may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes described above or to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations. You have the right to withdraw your consent or exercise your rights under the UK GDPR at any time by contacting us using the details provided in the Privacy Policy.

6. WARRANTIES AND INDEMNITY

6.1 You represent and warrant that, at the time of submission and throughout the term of use by Stories 4 Good Ltd, the submitted work:

(a) Is your sole and original creation and has not been copied from or based upon any other source without appropriate rights or permissions;

(b) Does not infringe the copyright, moral rights, trade mark rights, privacy rights, or any other intellectual property or proprietary rights of any third party;

(c) Does not contain any unlawful, offensive, harmful, threatening, defamatory, obscene, or discriminatory material, and does not violate any applicable laws or regulations, including the Defamation Act 2013, the Obscene Publications Act 1959, and relevant common law principles.

6.2 You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Stories 4 Good Ltd, its directors, employees, editors, affiliates, and publishing partners against any claims, demands, liabilities, losses, damages, judgements, settlements, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

(a) Any breach of the warranties set out in Clause 6.1 above;

(b) Any claim that the submitted work infringes the rights of any third party;

(c) Any act or omission by you that results in a breach of applicable laws or third-party rights in connection with your submission.

6.3 This indemnity shall survive the termination of these Terms and the removal or withdrawal of your work from publication.

7. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

7.1 To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Stories 4 Good Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential loss or damage, whether arising in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, including but not limited to loss of opportunity, loss of revenue, loss of goodwill, or reputational harm, arising out of or in connection with:

(a) Your submission of content to us;

(b) Our use, publication, editing, or non-selection of your submission;

(c) The acts or omissions of any third-party partners, service providers, or distributors.

7.2 Nothing in these Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for:

Death or personal injury caused by our negligence;

Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or

Any other liability which cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

7.3 Subject to Clause 7.2, our total aggregate liability to you in connection with any claim, action, or proceeding arising under or in relation to your submission or these Terms shall be limited to the sum of £100 (One Hundred Pounds Sterling).

8. GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION

8.1 These Terms, their subject matter, and any non-contractual obligations arising out of or in connection with them, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

8.2 The courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with these Terms, including any non-contractual disputes or claims, except where otherwise required by mandatory consumer protection laws in the jurisdiction of your habitual residence (if applicable).

9. GENERAL PROVISIONS

9.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Stories 4 Good Ltd in respect of your submission. They supersede any prior agreements, understandings, or representations, whether oral or written, relating to the subject matter hereof.

9.2 Amendments

We reserve the right to amend, update, or modify these Terms at any time. Any such changes will be posted on our website and will apply only to submissions made after the date on which the revised Terms are published. We are not required to notify you individually of updates, and you are advised to check the Terms periodically for changes.

9.3 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is determined by a court or other competent authority to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, such provision shall be deemed modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable. If modification is not possible, the relevant provision shall be deemed deleted, and the remainder of the Terms shall remain in full force and effect.

9.4 Waiver

No failure or delay by Stories 4 Good Ltd in exercising any right or remedy under these Terms shall constitute a waiver of that right or remedy, nor shall it prevent or restrict any further exercise of that or any other right or remedy.
